Khan Saheb (Naseeruddin Shah) is a Muslim classical vocalist, who is very happy with his music and does not worry about what is happening. His servant, Karim Mian (Raghubir Yadav) constantly tries to alert him with the riots, but Khan Saheb realises the extent of the trauma only after witnessing the destruction of a shrine dedicated to the Sufi saint, Wali Gujarati.
